Eric Willis

Lead Instructor

Eric found pickleball later in life and never looked back. He travels to play all over, and has competed up to the 5.0 level on the tournament circuit with his sights set on the senior pro ranks. He is known for his game IQ and his patience, and he is just as comfortable building a beginner's foundation as sharpening an advanced player's strategy. Friendly, well-traveled and respected across the courts, Eric is a favorite with our senior players.

  1. Pick a time

Send a lesson request or call the front desk, and we’ll match a time with your instructor. Lessons run 60 minutes by default; longer sessions are available on request.

  2. Tell us your goal

A short note before the lesson helps your instructor plan. “I keep popping up dinks.” “I want a harder serve.” Specifics save time.

  3. Show up and play

Sixty focused minutes: targeted drills, live reps, and video review if you want it.

Three kinds of players.

Brand new

Never picked up a paddle? Learn the fundamentals correctly the first time and skip weeks of bad habits.

  • Grip, stance and ready position
  • Serve, return and third-shot basics
  • Where to stand, and why

Stuck at 3.5

Playing three times a week and not improving? An instructor can usually see what’s holding you back.

  • Soft game and dinking discipline
  • Resets, blocks and counter-attacks
  • Court positioning and partner sync

Tournament prep

Bracket coming up? Sharpen specific situations (pace control, return depth, switching) and run match-pressure drills.

  • Pre-tournament tune-up
  • Strategy sessions with your partner
  • Video review of recent matches

Two players laughing as they walk off an ERA court

Every minute on what you need.

A private lesson is all about your game. There’s no group to keep pace with: your instructor watches your game, picks what matters most, and builds the hour around it.

  • 60-minute lessons, longer on request
  • Semi-private lessons for two to four players
  • No membership required

Before you book.

Do I need to be a member to book a lesson?

No. Anyone can book a private lesson at ERA. Pro members get 10% off lessons, and every new member gets 20% off their first lesson in their first 30 days. See memberships.

What if I’ve never played?

Good. Brand-new players are one of our three core lesson types. Your instructor starts with grip, stance and how to keep score, and by the end of one lesson you’ll be playing actual rallies.

Do you provide paddles?

Yes. Loaner paddles are at the desk: members borrow free, and non-members pay a small rental fee. If you want your own, we sell paddles at the desk and can recommend one that fits your style.

Can my partner and I take a lesson together?

Yes, that’s a semi-private lesson: same instructor, two players, a higher rate per lesson but a lower rate per person. It works well for couples and doubles partners. Contact us to set it up.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Reschedule up to 24 hours before with no penalty. Inside 24 hours, the lesson is forfeited from your pack. We hold the court and the instructor’s time for you, so please give notice when you can.

How is a lesson different from a clinic?

A private lesson is one-on-one and entirely about you. A clinic is a small-group session on one theme, such as dinking, third shots or doubles strategy. Lessons improve your game faster; clinics cost less and are more social.
